In Seven Card Stud Poker, prior to any cards being dealt, all player must ante. This is a tiny bet, normally a fraction of the lower limit on the table. The size of the ante hinges on the limits of the table you are playing, $0.50 and $1.00 tables have no ante.
Every player is dealt out three cards, one after another, 2 face down (these are called the hole cards) and one face up (this is called the up card/door card). The player displaying the lowest upcard must bring-in the 1st round of betting. The lowest card is ascertained by value, in the result of a tie, then it’s the lowest suit. This is the only time that suits are utilised in poker. In order of lowest suit, it’s clubs, diamonds, hearts, spades.
The bring-in bet is a tiny bet slightly larger than the ante, and is also influenced by the limit of the table you are playing, normally one-half the lower limit. A normal round of betting follows with all player getting the choice to fold, call or raise to a full bet. Each raise is restricted to the lower limit.
For example. In a $10/$20 game, the ante is normally $1, the bring-in $5, and a full bet is $10.
In all round there is a maximum of one bet and three raises. The limit for Seven Card Stud bets is the lower limit for the 1st 2 rounds and the higher limit for the other rounds. The exception is if a player displays a pair on the 2nd round he can go directly to the higher limit.
Fourth Street (second round of betting)
After betting has got even, that is. all players have bet the equivalent sum of money, all player is dealt out another card face up. The player with the highest 2 face up cards begins the betting. If the highest 2 cards are a pair, they have the choice to wager at either the higher or the lower limit. If 2 players are tied, then the player with the highest suit begins the betting. Players might fold, call or raise, and providing that no-one has bet, they might also check (bet nothing), letting them see who else bets. If all players check, then play moves to the next round.
Fifth and Sixth Streets
In the 5th street all player obtains another card face up. Betting begins the same as in the 4th street, but all bets are at the higher limit. Sixth Street is identical to Fifth Street. The highest hand showing begins the betting in all round.
Seventh Street (The River)
Every player obtains their final card face down, and the player who started the betting in Sixth Street, begins the betting in this round. When betting has finished, the player who made the final strong raise or bet reveals his 5 card hand, the ideal 5 card hand wins the pot.
